Wahoo for it being the weekend!
After a first and busy week of classes and internship (sharing the news next week), I am quite ready for the weekend! I find that when I am busier during the week, with school, homework, RA job and such, I value my days off so much more because I feel like I actually worked hard for them. I mean as much as I loved having pretty much nothing to do during winter break, it’s nice being more productive and engaging once again, while also establishing a new routine for the semester.
Instead of doing a standard “Friday Favorites” post, I am going to take the chance to fill in the questionnaire/survey thing that has been circulating around the blogging community! I truly enjoy reading these when other bloggers fill them out as it gives me a chance to know just a bit more about them. I mean we all talk so much about whatever thoughts flow through our heads, but learning about the actual PERSON is kind of nice.
In my case, I blurt out whatever thoughts are raging through my head, completely uncensored… usually related to recovering from my disordered eating. However, while this illness is a part of me, it does not define my existence, so reporting on other aspects about myself is a welcome change
I hope you are not incredibly sick of these already… erry sorry if you are in that case!
Anyway, both Kate and Lindsay tagged me for this (thanks ladies!) so I am going to take some questions from each of the ones they propose!
#2 Each person must post 11 things about themselves on their blog.
#3 Answer the questions the tagger set for you in their post and create 11 new questions for the people you tag to answer.
Those seem awfully demanding, so let’s get to it
1) I used to ride horses Equestrian style when I was younger. Each summer I would go to a horse camp in New Hampshire and spend two weeks there learning to ride! However, it is a majorly expensive sport and alas, staying committed was just way too much money. That doesn’t mean I still don’t love to ride though and I hope to own my own horses one day
June 1990, I was not even a year old! With my dad
2) I am going to go ahead and toot my own horn here… I am pretty dang good at Dance Dance Revolution (DDR).. anyone remember that game? Majorly popular a few years ago, before Wii Fit and similar games came out. My friend Mandy and I would practice for HOURS and be sweaty beasts by the end. Killer workout, yet it was nice not think of the game that way at that young age, it was purely for enjoyment. And yes, I used to be one of those weirdo kids that would spend way too much time in the mall arcade playing DDR.
3) One of my biggest fears is throwing up. Like… it’s hard to describe how much of a problem I have with this. Now of course, no one enjoys barfing, it’s a terrible feeling. But when I feel nauseous? Well it’s not pretty and I get way overly-hysterical and go a bit nuts. I also have this “ability” to will myself not to throw up, which in turn just makes me feel 10x worse for a longer period of time. I am working on this though and trying to convince myself that the world will not end if I vommm.
4) I have a bit of an obsession with scarves. I cannot resist buying them (well I can, but you know) and I think they look great paired with pretty much any outfit!
5) My Pandora bracelet is one of my most favorite things I own and each individual bead has a meaning and story behind it.
6) I never travel anywhere without my horse, Duchess. She has been with me for YEARS! Duchess’s name came from the back of the Barbie Riding Club CD Rom box, a game I would play for far too many hours on our computer supporting Windows 95.
7) I always involved in at least two pleasure reads... one on my Kindle and one that I am listening to. On that note, listening to books while I walk to class, clean, drive in the car, organize, etc, is such a delightful part of my day. It allows me to escape and focus on the book while completing activities I might not want to.
This is one of my favorite quotes when referring to a man... “Men are like buses. If you miss one there is always another on the way.” I have been hurt many times in my past, and quite frankly I am tired of it. However, this small reminder is both helpful and nice to hear, especially when I am feeling a bit down on myself because of the (lack of) relationship situation.
Or I will have Leo instead… first celeb crush
9) I kept this picture of OIAJ for a very specific reason… it was the first time ever experiencing this kind of dish and it was also one of the scariest items I had ever eaten. This was consumed back in April 2011 and it contained every possible ingredient that terrified me, aka would lead to a 15 pound weight gain- oats, chia seeds, banana, 1% milk and about 1.5 tablespoons of Justin’s Maple Almond Butter. It turned out to be overwhelmingly tasty and memorable apparently
10) I don’t act like a “girly-girl” (whatever that means exactly) but I do have girly things… like this canopy over my bed. I wanted to be a princess more than anything as a kid, and this helps to fulfill my dreams
11) I would much rather go on a tropical vacation than tour around Europe. I believe this is because I have never gone anywhere tropical ( I am talking St. Lucia, Croix, Bermuda, kind of places) and it’s the type of location I have longed to visit.. one day! After it will be time for some European history
Phew yay for facts!
And now, Kate and Lindsay’s Questions! (a mix)
11. What is your favorite form of exercise? Right now it is hard-core circuit training! I look forward to these workouts so much more than running at the moment!
And finally, my 11 questions are,
1) What is a weird and/or interesting quirk you have?
2) If you could date an action hero (Batman, Superman, Spiderman, etc.) who would it be?
3) What would you say is your favorite book of all time?
4) If you could drop everything right now and rush off to a vacation, where would your ideal location be?
5) If you had the ability run any race or compete in any sporting event in the world, what would it be?
6) What is your favorite store (Food, clothes, hourseware)?
7) What would be your “last meal?”
What is something you never leave the house without?
9) Are you an only child or do you have siblings? Describe them if you do
10) What workout are you currently loving?
11) What is a goal in life you are striving to achieve?
And now I am going to tag these awesome-sauce ladies,
Rachel @ Eat, Learn, Discover
Kiah @ Good For Me Girl
Sophie @ Love, Live And Learn
Ashley @ Rhythm Of My Mind
Liz @ I Heart Vegetables
*Please share your thoughts!
-Can we relate on any of these?
-Care to share any circuit workouts you are currently loving? I am always on the lookout for new routines
-Are they any irrational(ish) fears you have like I do with throwing up?
-How is your weekend going thus far?
Enjoy the rest of your Saturday!

oh yes, we can relate to a lot. I used to live in Hawaii, so i have suggestions!! The OIAJ are scary but delicious. And you my friend have the most gorgeous eyes!!
lindsay recently posted..No Rush
AHh how did I not know this?! WHEN I go (not if) I will honestly hit you up for suggestions
LOVE this post, Tessa! Oh goodness, I can *definitely* relate…Where to begin?
I have a slight obsession with scarves as well; they fill two drawers in one of my dressers! I think they’re the perfect accessory–lots of fun, but drama free.
My Pandora bracelet is near and dear to my heart. I only wear it on special occasions, but that’s because I want to protect each of the charms and what they represent. Each one symbolizes a special time, place or moment in my life!
Love the man quote…and Leo! I’d like to steal Duchess (so cute!), and take a tropical vacation…tomorrow.
Summer IS definitely the best season. AND, I have a completely irrational fear about throwing up as well (have my entire life)! I used to keep a bowl by my bed when I was young “just in case.” Haha…it’s debilitating at times! Even to this day, I can’t be near someone who’s been sick!
Finally, I have yet to try oats in a jar…Am I missing out big time? <3
Sara @ Nourish and Flourish recently posted..Apple Cinnamon Love + News!
Debilitating is the correct word to describe the irrational fear of barfing… so so true!
I love surveys! So fun.
I’m so much more a fan of running than circuit training, heh. And I love scarves too – but the weather here is so hot all the time, it would be impractical to buy one.
Lyn @ FueledBySalad recently posted..Full Body Weight Workout
Well perhaps just a light spring scarf as an accessory would do the trick?
aaah we have so much in common!! I have a canopy over my bed too (at home, I sadly didn’t take it to college) and it’s going to STAY there. it makes me feel like a princess! I love that quote about men too, i’ve only been in 3 relationships, all really serious, all ended with me getting burned hah. But I guess I’d rather just have faith that there’s a nice guy out there than adopt the “stay far away from men, they suck” attitude! Also, I love that you have a stuffed horse that goes everywhere with you, I have a stuffed unicorn named Flurry! she came to college with me too and sat on my shelf next to my shot glasses….uh, i mean, textbooks….lol. Leo was my first celeb crush too, and I too have an obsession with scarves!! I have a section of my wall devoted to displaying them lol. Oh and I am also afraid of throwing up. 95% of the time i feel SO much better once I do, but that hour or so beforehand….agonizing, there isn’t a worse feeling in the world haha. Happy Weekend!!!!!!
Kate @ Chasing It recently posted..Ellevensies
Let’s both keep hanging onto that quote… I truly believe it! I do take on that attitude sometimes (when I am in a foul mood) but it is just not helpful!
I hope you have are having a great weekend Kate and are feeling better
Throwing up grosses me out too! I have a friend who makes herself puke after drinking a lot to avoid a hangover the next morning! The idea of it scares me! I love that u saved that pic of OIAJ- I remember staying far far away from pb for a long time because god forbid I intentionally eat fat!
Khushboo recently posted..Body for Life
Ooo yikes… that is kind of terrifying!
I’m so with you on number 3! I can’t believe I’m not the only one – I can’t even do the strep tests at the doctor’s, because it makes me feel like I’m gagging. Boo!
But sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet, sweet TRUMPS savory! YAAAAAAAAAAAY =D. So gonna go Pinkberry it up. Oh wait, it’s 8am. Okay, I’ll wait a few hours. But then? *It’s on like Donkey Kong.*
And I’ve never been anywhere tropical, either! I so need to get to Hawaii someday – or, better yet, Fiji. Let’s just go whole-horse here, guys.

Thank you miss, I hope you had a nice weekend HOME
Happy Saturday! Thanks for sharing, and yes, I can relate to so much of what you shared! One thing that really stands out for me is your fear of throwing up because I have the same fear!!! Its really one of my only fears, but it is bad! Like you, I was an RA during undergraduate, and anytime I had a sick resident, whether because of actual sickeness or because of drinking too much, I had to call another RA on staff to help because I just couldn’t stand the smell, behavior, etc…..
Looking forward to hearing about your internship next week, and I hope you don’t mind, but I started following of your pintrest boards this morning too
Have a great weekend!!! MC
Hhahaha so true about the RA situation! Anytime I smelled/saw it, I immediately called back up and tried not to flip out.
I am psyched you like my Pinterest boards! Pin away
I used to horseback ride as well! I LOVED it, and sometimes I definitely miss it.
I have a really silly kind of embarrassing fear – in the fall, there are always deer hanging out eating the grass outside of our apartment building. When I leave the building in the morning when it’s still dark to go run, I’ve learned to avoid them, but I’m always terrified that they will chase me. Fortunately now it’s winter and they are gone
Have a great weekend!
Kaitlyn recently posted..Accepting My Body
Aww deer are cute! Way more scared of you than you are them
PS and now I’ve gone crazy on your pintrest — LOVE LOVE LOVE all of your boards
I can completely relate on one through four! I was really into horses as a young teen. I used to muck out stalls at the barn in exchange for unlimited riding. I sometimes think about getting involved with horses again…but I’m not made of rubber anymore, and I’m afraid of falling. And I’m good at DDR, and I looooove scarves, and throwing up is pretty much the worst feeling in the world. Fun post!
Stephanie recently posted..Here There Be Monsters
You play DDR?! We are hanging out, and soon.
Fun survey! I’m the same way about the girly girl thing. I’m not “girly”, but I do have girly things and one of my favorite colors is pink. Plus I hate throwing up. Exhibit A: my 21st birthday + refusal to puke = sick Brittany all day. Haha.
I totally just started following you on Pintrest! Your boards rock! I hope you have a great weekend!

Omg there’s so many questions here, I’m overwhelmed! lol I will just answer that I prefer savory of the spicy variety most often
Those are fun facts about you! I love your bracelet. I would like to create something like that with meaning to me. I recently had my first OIAJ too. I didn’t have as much exciting stuff in there but it was fun to eat out of a jar!

I too have a Duchess of my own! My teddy bear Herman and I have been through it all and I have had him since I was 5. He is named after my grandpa who passed away soon after he gave the bear to me. He still sleeps in the bed with me, luckily my husband doesn’t mind! lol Just from reading a few of your posts, I can tell you are an awesome woman who is gorgeous!!! Your right man will come along, and he will be one lucky guy!
jana @ newly wife healthy life recently posted..Chili when it’s Chilly
Aww Herman sounds adorable, I think it’s so nice to have something special like that
I love reading the surveys and learning more about the “real” person behind the blog. Let’s see…stuff we have in common…Oiaj scare me, I have something similar to a Duchess and I still sleep with it (hubby has learned to accept it), I listen to books/podcasts when running rather than music, I love circuit workouts and create some amazing ones (hence why I teach aerobics I guess), and I love Caribbean vacays and we take at least 1-2/yr. I have traveled Europe and actually spent my jr yr of high school traveling Europe on an international dance team. Amazing experience. I will admit to being a killer dancer which has led me to be a great aerobic instructor. (wow, that sounds boastful, but it’s true and I’ve never said that aloud/to the public before).
I am in my hometown this wkend with my husband. It’s a much needed break from the daily routine and I enjoy the diff workouts at my old gym and all the amazing shopping. Have a blessed wkend. I can’t wait to read about your internship.
Colleen, boast away! I am sure you are a fantastic instructor and I would honestly enjoy taking one of your classes! Well as long as you promised not to make fun of me, as I have wrote about here, I have zero coordination, it’s pretty sad lol
I hope you are having a nice weekend with the Husband
I haven’t been getting sick of these AT ALL, because I’ve been learning a lot of interesting stuff about everyone!
We have A LOT of similarities… I totally understand what you mean about having a fear of throwing up! The last time I did, I was 21 (almost 26 now) & really, really sick & before that I hadn’t done so since I was a kid! I just can’t bring myself to do it!
I also love scarves & have a stuffed animal that I can’t part with (even in my adult years)!
Erica @ For the Sake of Cake recently posted..Friday Favorites, Part 3
I haven’t thrown up in about 5 years too! I am glad you are scared like I am.. nice to know I am not the only one haha
I used to have the Barbie Beauty Styler and Diva Starz (remember those?!) CD-ROMs. I also used to be an avid Neopets player!
I sure do remember those… and neopets…YES!! I still have access to my account, goodness that is embarrassing
My body does the exact same thing as yours when it comes to throwing up! I have some pretty severe food allergies, so this has led to 3-hour sessions in the middle of the night feeling horrid and just waiting. It is no fun.
On a happier note, I love scarves too! My favorite is the scarf I got at the 2010 Winter Olympics, but I have scarves of all shapes, sizes, and colors.
The cereal question makes me laugh because I HATED cereal as a kid. I always thought it was way too sweet. However, I’ve definitely jumped on the Puffins train since then (cinnamon is my fave).
That is so cool you went to the Olympics! I hope to go to one day as well
Cinnamon Puffins are great, although the chocolate/pb mix wins me over!
Omg we can relate on so many of these..I think it’s awesome
. I LOVE your little horse, and I totally used to be obsessed with Barbie Riding Club- it was one of my fav computer games! And I’m glad I’m not the only one who uses artificial sweeteners in their coffee haha. That’s amazing that you can straighten your hair so fast! I’ve gotten mine down pretty quickly too…now if only I could get it to stay straight on the days that I want it to haha. Hope you have a fabulous weekend! And I can’t wait to hear about this internship of yours!
Lindsay @ In Sweetness and In Health recently posted..Recharging Your Batteries
Ha seriously about the hair.. on humid/rainy days I don’t even bother. It stays straight but then I have about an inch of frizz!
I love these surveys, it’s so nice to learn a little more about you Tessa
And thank you ever so much for tagging me! I think I have a little fear of throwing up too, not as badly as you describe it but I absolutely loathe being sick, I’d rather have an awful head ache than throw up! I got so emotional reading your 9th fact – it just shows how far you’ve come, how much you’ve achieved and what a strong person you are. You have so so much to be proud of lovely! And you do have gorgeous eyes
I will do the survey as soon as I can <3

I love scarves too – I live in them all winter because they keep me so warm and cozy! I was always jealous of people who were good at DDR when I was younger – I loved playing it, but I totally sucked haha!
Have a great weekend girl!

Oh gawd I hate vomiting! I mean, everyone does, but one time I had food poisoning and another time I had an eye infection and my fever was so high I couldn’t keep anything down and I threw up several times in the ER waiting room. Ick! So glad I haven’t gotten sick since then.
Maria @ Beautiful Busy Bee recently posted..20 Questions
Oh gosh, that sounds horrible! I am glad you have not gotten sick since the either
Did you ride English or Western? I rode Western for a while and tried English but just could not do it haha. I want to try again but I cannottttttt afford $50 lessons. =(
Also: I am TERRIFIED of puking!! When I was 7 months old, for my first Christmas, I spent over a week in the hospital because I had pneumonia… apparently I was super contagious or had a really weak immune system or something because they put me in a bed with lots of toys, then separated me from the outside world with a plastic curtain all the way around — so my mom couldn’t touch me or hold me. And my first memory is of throwing up and feeling terrified and not being able to touch my mom. So when I say I canNOT handle throwing up…I mean it! I’ll start shaking & crying if I get nauseous. I’m a real treat haha!
I rode English! It is tough too, and I think I would have preferred Western… I like being able to hold onto the horn thing! I used to get sort-of yelled at when I hung onto the front of the saddle. Not proper apparently haha
I start getting hysterical too! Like way over the top! I have been on the phone with my mom before and she is like “uhh, just throw up honey.” NOOOO
I am the same with throwing up, it just terrifies me for no reason! I haven’t even been sick in years but it’s still a fear I can’t shake. Maybe it’s because I had a really embarrassing experience throwing up in the middle of class in elementary school…ugh, it’s just gross!
I actually used to really love riding horses, my family would go up into the mountains every summer and one of the days we stayed we’d ride horses. The last time I ever rode one, there was a huge thunderstorm and my horse got spooked and started to run under a tree with me still on it! Luckily I ducked and was wearing a helmet but it was still scary! And we also got super soaked on the ride when it started raining, so it kind of ruined my experience with horseback riding!

Hi, My Tessa,
I don’t know why I’m surprised at our similarities. After all, we ARE related. I also cannot puke, always have had a million scarves, rode horses for many years, love my pandora, however, I love salty not sweet, & I don’t especially like tropical places. Funny coming from a lady who lives in Florida. I think my last meal would have to be ice cream. I love it, but RARELY eat it. I think my favorite book is Thorn Birds, followed by Prince of Tides. Also walk to books on tape. Your survey is fun and enlightening.
Lots of love to my sweet girl, Gram
I think I would share my last meal with you… you know I love ice cream too gram
Yes to both Thorn Birds and Prince of Tides! Both favorites of mine as well!

I’ve had her since I was 8, and outgrew her in skill a loooong time ago unfortunately. She was still nice to mess around with, but now I’m going to compete again and am hopefully getting a new horse. You’re totally right though – equestrianism is hella expensive. I work at my barn at home and train horses for my lessons all summer, and at school I pay my own way. It sucks!
