Guest Post- 10 Healthy Ways To Be Good To Yourself

Happy Friday dear friends!

While I have had an enjoyable week, it’s also been a HECTIC one for more reasons than one! Even though I had planned on doing a more “fun” and random post, I am just not feeling it today and am instead choosing to turn my brain off for several hours… this involves baking a recipe I am familiar with, take Caleb for a “walk,” watch some mindless TV (Friday Night Lights, I am looking at you!) and just relaxxxxx. So darn excited about it :)

I don’t like leaving zeee ole blog with no updates or new information for too long! Sooo for today I am including a guest post written by Kelly over at Shape Daily, who was nice enough to send me one :) Her topic today correlates quite well with what I want and need to do for myself on this Friday night… take it away Kelly!

Hey Amazing Asset readers! My name is Kelly and I blog over at ShapeDaily.com. I am a recent college grad who is trying to find balance between a healthy lifestyle and having fun (all while on a budget)! I wrote this post because we can all get a little stressed sometimes, and rather then going out and partying or engaging in some retail therapy, I wanted to think of some healthy ways that you can boost your mood and feel good about yourself!

When you make it a priority to take care of yourself, your physical and mental health can be greatly improved. Everyone goes through rough patches in life, but while there are many things we can’t control, our emotions and well-being are some we can. Doing little things to spoil yourself can bring joy to your life and foster longevity. Try some of these easy ways to be good to yourself and keep you happy and healthy.

Cook yourself a gourmet meal- Preparing a deliciously healthy meal for yourself and/or loved ones is a great way to get creative and have fun. Pick up some fresh ingredients that you love, and whip up something you’ve never made for yourself that encourages good health.

Do some pleasure reading- Reading can be motivating, empowering and challenging. When you read books that you enjoy, you can acquire knowledge and develop new thoughts. Enriching your life through pleasurable reading opens your mind to possibilities and boosts your mood.

Look your best- You don’t have to have a new outfit each day, but simply appearing clean and tidy can not only boost your self esteem, but can make others respond well to you as well. You will feel more alive when you are confident in your appearance. Put your best food forward by starting each day making yourself the best “you” possible.

Listen to music- Music can be uplifting and a complete mood changer. Different music can do different things for you; relax and calm you, or make you feel alive and want to dance. Whatever floats your boat. Enjoying some music you love each day is a great way to put yourself in a good mental state.

Spend time alone- It may seem tough with a busy schedule to set some time aside to be alone with your thoughts; but it can be very beneficial to your mental health. You can meditate, pray or take a short nap; whatever it is, dedicate that time completely to you and your peace of mind.

Learn something new- Trying something you’ve never done before can increase your vitality and make you feel empowered. Take on a new hobby like playing a musical instrument or learning a different language to make you feel young and alive. The excitement you feel in your stimulated mind will surprise you.

Get some exercise- Engaging in physical fitness and activity will make you feel good in the short run and in the long run. Getting your heart rate up and blood flowing will release endorphins in your brain that are the cause pleasure and joy. Your body and mind will be invigorated and refreshed.

Take a hot bath- De-stress and pamper yourself by taking a luxurious bath. Adding some calming scented bath salts, or even some bubbles can add to the enjoyment of this alone time. Taking a long bath will relax your body and your mind, and ease any tension you have as well. This is an awesome way to take care of yourself!

Write in a journal- Getting all of your thoughts out of your head and onto paper can make you feel 100 times better. Not only can writing anything and everything stimulate your mind, it can evoke creativity and honesty within yourself. Having your thoughts in black and white will improve mental health, and can make it feel like you are sharing secrets with yourself.

Try a beauty treatment- You don’t have to book a day at the spa to enjoy an awesome beauty treatment. There are plenty of do it yourself face masks, mani and pedi ideas, and hair tricks for you to try anytime you feel like it. Do a little something for yourself to improve your looks and your self confidence- and of course, feel great!

Thank you Kelly for the helpful tips! For me personally, I am including cooking the gourmet meal for myself tonight :)

-(from Tessa), What are your plans for this weekend?

I believe I will be back tomorrow with a post, if not I will see all of your lovely selves on Monday! Have a nice evening :D

AHH I love this post! Whenever the crazy hectic real world crap takes over my life, I definitely have to remind myself to make “me time” or else I go bonkers haha Drawing, reading, and chillin in the tub listening to music usually always help :)
Enjoy your relaxation evening Tessa!! You deserve it!!!! <3

LOVE this! I like spending time alone reading, pondering, napping ;), or just thinking about things I am grateful for. It helps SO so much. I also love a good chat session/date night with the hubs!

Great tips! Some alone time is definitely needed every once in a while.

I’m planning on froyo tonight, sushi tomorrow, and other than that, working my way through the pile of schoolwork that needs to be done. :-)

The best! I always have to remember to not get down on myself for not doing things sometimes.. I need my own time sometimes and being mad at myself about having that time is just counterproductive! We have a rugby game this weekend. :)

Yes, cook yourself a nice meal! One of the most relaxing things I do is take my time to cook something really fancy and plate it nice even when I’m all by myself :) You don’t need special occasions to get fancy.
