Good Evening Folks!
I thought I was going to get around to blogging earlier today but ehhh, I found that searching through my entire attic for a necklace I can’t find ANYWHERE was a better idea. A few months ago I lost my oh-so-favorite Tiffany’s lock-shaped necklace, one that my grandmother gave to me when I was 10 years old… just one of those very special pieces of jewelry. Somehow in the course of the latter part of 2012, it has been MIA. I have a feeling I placed it in something I thought was rather clever at the time and now of course, I have no flippen clue where that might be. Can’t even tell you the number of times this has occurred with various personal items…
I am hoping one day I will find the necklace when I’m not looking for it… that’s usually how it works right? Right?! Just say yes, I miss it
Enough yapping about that though, time for something more interesting, a Hey, it’s OK post! Haven’t done of one of these in a while and I thought of several during an hour break from school I had earlier today. (Update on school coming later, the first week has gone well though!)
Hold onto your butts, here we go!
………..to eat a poptart while you are working out at the gym. Just yesterday I was on a stationary bike and a middle-aged normal looking guy got on the one next to me and proceeded to pull a poptart (I’m pretty sure it was smores, drool) and ate it while peddling away. I couldn’t help but to do a double take… but hey man, you do what you do, that is one way to feel the burn.
………..to go to the mall after class with zero intention of buying anything but to just walk around, people watch and window shop. It’s been too damn cold to walk outside without freezin my tits off (crude expression, but one I adore), and I needed to mentally and physically MOVE after an 8 hour or so day at school. (Although I did buy 2 pairs of socks at Marshall’s, BIG SPENDAA)
……….. to eat during class when pretty much no one else does. This one I do not understand, how do people go for hours and hours with nothing to eat? Even with a substantial breakfast, I am hungry about 2 hours later and am ready for snacking… something perfect to do during class and actually allows me to focus better. And yet, I seem to be the only one munching and crunching away. It’s very confusing, but power to them!
Cute little girl eating to represent… why not
………..to bitch about the cold. Well sort of. I know I live in the Northeast, it’s January and that whole winter/death chill thing is to be expected, fine. What is not fine however is how our poorly insulated house does a poor job at keeping the place warm, especially at night when the heat is turned down. Waking up to temperatures like this,
is not so pleasant! Although it does prompt me to get dressed at lightening speed and hot coffee is that much more enjoyed. One last note on this, thank goodness for my space heater.
………….to have breakfast for dinner the last errr 4 days in a row, specifically steamy, hot oatmeal! Another choice I am blaming on the weather. Going along with this, it’s also OK(!) to save a huge hunk of peanut butter for the very last bite. I actually add a glob in towards the end to make sure I finish off the bowl with that delightful flavor in my mouth
Why yes, I am a cliche blogger at times, oatmeal is dang tasty.
…………..to fight tooth and nail to have two required classes for nursing, transfer over for credit from UMASS. Urghhh on this one. Last week or so I received an email from my adviser stating that whoops, sorry Tessa but you still have to take Sociology 100 and Composition 2. Make sure you sign up either this semester or the summer session, thanks.
Woah, hold the phone. First, that would be about $800-ish dollars for the 6 credits (community college prices) which is way more money than I can spend right now. Second, major time sucker and finally, it’s actually rather absurd why these particular classes won’t transfer over. For example, while I have never taken Intro to Soc, I have completed a number of others- family, childhood, communication… yet this doesn’t count? The composition one made me laugh a bit, sarcastically that is. Composition, writing? I enrolled in a number of writing classes in undergrad but again, not intro.
So yes in the process of getting these two classes approved, I will just be so darn flustered if it doesn’t work out! I’ll keep you posted and in the mean time, everyone cross their fingers
Rant over.
………… to take an impromptu (and extra) rest day this week. I truly never do this and yes, much of that decision is tied to my “need” to get at least some workout in most days of the week. Yesterday though, I was just not feeling right- weak, a bit shaky and “off” for no reason I could think of (and not getting sick). All morning I had been sitting in class, came home and sat some more while doing homework, took a nap and read for a while – zero activity= normally unheard of.
What is NOT OK is the dreaded feelings of guilt and LAZY bum surging through my mind nearly all afternoon. As a result I was agitated on a day I mentally and physically needed to rest. It would be great to simply make a tough-for-me decision like this and move the heck on.
………….. to want and own way too many items of clothing that are sparkly
These tights are something I need, oh and the shirt too
I mean crystallized tights? I know.
………….to respond to what my body is telling me it needs. In this case more FOOD- a whole more after dinner than I had previously planned for. This occurred the other night and while I had eaten what I was supposed to in regards to the new plan, I was insatiable, physically or mentally I couldn’t tell you. Perhaps a combination of both? M&M trail mix, a honkin piece of a PB snack cake I made recently, some pretzels (sweet and salty, oh yes), and a bit of milk chocolate to finish off the night.
Now I will NOT call this binging, more reactive eating(?) than anything I would say. The awareness of what I was choosing to do and eat was there, but basically I threw up my arms and said, “the hell with it, I want THIS! Oh and some of THAT! Some more of THIS please… chocolateeee.” This was clearly my body telling me something and I listened and also I was able to take away a lesson, it’s called eat more during the day. Or just plain eat more, clearly I am craving something here.
…………..to take a picture of yourself (hey there ‘selfie’) when you are at your not-so-sexiest.
Hawt. Although it appears that my hair is an ungodly share of blonde/nasty yellow, I am in fact darkening it here! A few weeks ago, I low-lighted my hair for the winter… plus I was tired of attempting to keep up with an unnatural (for me) blonde color that grew out way too fast. Plus, I have no money.
And that is the picture I am going to leave you all with today, because… why not?! Perhaps it will give you a giggle to get your weekend off to a silly start
-What is your “Hey, It’s OK!” right now or in general? Share any and all you can think of, I enjoy reading these from others!
-What is the strangest or funniest thing you have witnessed/seen at the gym? The guy with the poptart wins for me!
-Do you think there is a difference between what is considered “binging” and eating a whole lot at once because your body (and mind in some cases) truly needs it?
-Serious question now, what do you propose is the best Poptart flavor? I personally was always a Blueberry lover! Could not get enough of that frosting, which of course was always licked off first
I have to admit though, haven’t had one of these suckers in years and I know since then the company has produced flavors such as cake batter… perhaps one day I shall reconsider my choice.
-What are your plans for the weekend? Anyone racing? Tell me about it so I can live vicariously through you! Hehh.
Enjoy your Friday night and the rest of the weekend as well

I say, power to you for eating in class! I’ve noticed that I seem to eat a lot more than most people (I outeat my 6’0 boyfriend on a regular basis) and I’ve pretty much learned to accept that. Other people may go 6 hours without food, once I hit 3 I’m starting to get cranky! It’s all about what works for the individual, right?
Oh my god, a pop tart on a bike. That is hilarious! I don’t even know what the best flavour would be. I feel like there’s so many out-there flavours now (s’more, chocolate chip cookie dough, strawberry shortcake…) that it just makes me nostalgic for the 4-5 flavours I had when I was a kid. I loved the strawberry ones – with the white frosting and sprinkles (obviously, I loved the sprinkles).
And those tights/shoes….oh goodness I want those!
WAIT! I changed my mind on the poptart. Do you remember those limited edition wildberry ones with purple and blue icing?! THOSE were amazing.
Sam @ Better With Sprinkles recently posted..Five Thing Friday: Pinterest Edition.
Yep you are right Sam, gotta do what works for me and that’s that! Now that you mention it, I DO remember that flavor! Umm yeah, delicious, fake sugars
BROWN sugar or the maple are the BEST poptart flavors. I JUST found out like two days ago that poptarts are vegan. HA. I haven’t had one in years. I eat all the time in class, I can’t go without. The info will just not retain!
I think you look HAWWWT with that hair shit in!! Go girl! This weekend I am relaxing (ugh I do that everyday) and have an 11mi training run WHOO!
Hey it’s ok that I sat on my arse all day to enjoy being lazy..kinda.

Ahh 11 miles! I hope it went well Brittany, although I am sure you rocked it
This is exactly why I needed to read during the ride home from my meet. I guess that answers your question about racing, although you don’t want to live vicariously through me on this one. It royally sucked haha I’ve totally been there with the Tiffany necklace. Definitely cried a few times and it did turn up later. Don’t give up hope yet! I’m so glad you listened to your body. I have totally thrown in the towel some nights and eaten what my body was craving. There’s clearly a reason for it, so you might as well give it what it wants! Actually, I can relate to most of these! That stinks about the credit transfer. I hope it all works out for you!
And let’s hang out so we can complain about the cold and rock the sparkly outfits together
Sarah recently posted..Versatile Blogger Award: J-Term Edition
Dohh well it was your first one in quite sometime so please don’t be hard on yourself Sarah! About your necklace, good to know it turned up later, that is exactly what I am hoping for!
Yes please to hanging out together too, it would be a hoot and a half
That guy at the gym sounds awesome- more power to him for fuelling with a Pop-Tart during his workout! Those were a childhood favorite for me! Chocolate was my go-to flavor although so many fun flavors keep popping up (I’m especially referring to cookie dough)! And brinner is always okay..I went down the pancake route on Thursday night and it was definitely a good call
! Have a fab weekend, Tess!

Oh gosh yes, howwww could I forget about cookie dough? That might be something to challenge my mind in the future
oh man I have so missed these ladies! I think all of these are pretty darn cool. I really give you credit for the impromptu rest day, that is how I roll these days and boy it feels to good to respect my body. same with the eating, sometimes you just got to eat more. our bodies need it or so they want to tell us that. my hey it is ok is… to have a low key friday night cause you needed the break and be in bed by 8 pm. it happened and it was glorious
Alex @ therunwithin recently posted..Snack Attack: Chasing Pavement
That is awesome that you are going with the random rest days now too… I am going to keep on incorporating it into my life, makes me feel physically so much better. Now just have to get the mental part to catch up!
Honestly, I’m glad you eat in class because if you ask me, it is normal, especially in a long 4-5 hour class. A science lab wouldn’t be safe but a lecture that’s very long with a few breaks in it, yeah definitely pack food!
Good luck with those classes transferring. Transfer horror story- Clay and I had a friend in undergrad who went to Clemson and transferred to our college. Well, he was a math minor at FMU, but at Clemson, everyone had to take Calculus. He transferred and took lots of advanced calculus classes, even multivariable, statistics, etc (he took like 5 math classes at FMU). Well… a few days before graduation, they said he could not graduate because his Calc 2 did not transfer… no lie. Even with his advanced classes, he had to stay an extra semester to take CALC 2. So, I hope your college makes an exception, but if not at least you’re not suffering through at the end like Mac did. We all thought it was so whack but our college was really stickler-ish like that.
Poptarts are good in the freezer. I haven’t eaten one in years but I used to eat frosted blueberry in high school. In college I ate the hot fudge sundae ones, frozen.
I hope you find the necklace.
Amy Lauren recently posted..Peanut butter cookies, 15K fuel, and surprise giveaway wins
Ahhh holy crap that is a horror story indeed! Was that something you talked about on your own blog? It sounds like a familiar story, an annoying once to say the least
Anyway, I hope you are having a delightful weekend Amy
No, don’t think I talked about it on my blog. This happened in 07, so I wasn’t blogging then (well, I was, but not on Wordpress). I think some colleges are sticklers, and really it should not matter.
If they will not accept your credit, see if they offer a way for you to test out of it. My friend took 4 years of Spanish in high school and managed to test out of and get 6 hours credit for college Spanish without even setting foot in the classroom. That could be another option…
Amy Lauren recently posted..Peanut butter cookies, 15K fuel, and surprise giveaway wins
Ooo okay well great, now my mind is making things up lol. Good point on the option of possibly testing out, noted!
Must be a math vibe (with Amy’s story above). I never transferred colleges but I changed majors from math to health. Anywho I took stats 500 for the math major and they made me take stats 100 (which was a requirement for health…) even though obviously the 500 was the same material…more advanced.
Oh lordy what reasoning schools have… they just want monayyyy grr
I’m glad you listened to your body and ate! I definitely think there’s a difference between that and binging – I sometimes eat a ton at once (even after dinner) but that’s just what our bodies/minds need sometimes. Binging is with that out of control guilty feeling, when it’s like something to punish yourself and it’s shameful.

Tessa! Good post. So glad you are back to blogging! I agree with you that somedays – we just need to eat a lot, and its not binging! It’s just called life!

That pop tart story is gold!!!
I hope your credit transfers. It is ridiculous if it doesn’t.
I like going darker in winter and lighter in summer. You suit blonde! I’m sure you suit darker too. Upkeep is an overpriced nightmare though!!

Yesss if only it were freee!!! Haha in my little fantasy world perhaps
I always hated how awkward it was to eat in class, but hey if you’re hungry who the heck cares! I never notice if anyone else does it (or I notice, but don’t care). Good luck with the transferring stuff! Hopefully everything works out well. And yay for rest days! I’m taking a rest weekend, because I’ve been trying to fight this flu but it’s finally caught up. Might as well accept it and rest. Duh;)

I hope the rest weekend did you some good Lisa, so important when you are not feeling your best!
People smoking on their way in to the gym or straight after..craziness! Totally do the saving the nut butter thing with oatmeal! For me the whole binging and eating large portions of food is incredibly different; binging is emotionally fueled and something that I did to the point that I basically couldn’t move with the sheer pain and stomach expansion as well as nausea. Now I can eat large meals but they’re balanced, they’re fueled by hunger.
Shel@PeachyPalate recently posted..Giving yourself a boost
Ahh yes those are the feelings associated with binging and goodness how unpleasant are they. It’s all about keeping a balance at all other times in order to avoid feeling the “need” to either binge or reactively eat! Keep your body fueled and ready 100% of the time
Hahaha that’s so funny about the man eating a pop tart at the gym! Yesterday I ate a cookie after my workout, but it was a vegan oatmeal-banana-sunbutter cookie from a local bakery, so it was probably pretty healthy anyway. The funniest thing I’ve seen at the gym is this man who brings his laptop and uses it while riding the stationary bike… actually it’s kind of annoying when all the bikes are taken and he’s hogging one while only going like 1 mile an hour.
And I eat in class ALL the time and I always feel like I’m the only one. How the hell do people go longer than 3 hours without eating?? The only time I can do that is if I stuff myself on all you can eat sushi lol.
My “Hey, it’s ok” for the day is that it’s okay to do a nutrition presentation to a group of Girl Guides and tell them that it’s ok to eat junk food. I’m sure that’s not usually something you hear in nutrition presentations, but I refuse to implant disordered thoughts in their heads by telling them that junk food is the devil.
Have a great weekend girl! And I hope you find your necklace haha.
Chelsea @ One Healthy Munchkin recently posted..Life by Design: My Thoughts
Dohhh that would definitely annoy me! I mean I know he is doing is thing while at the gym, but you need to get on in there too! Oh and heck yes to going to town on sushi, plus it’s a nice convenience that you never seem to fill up from it
Hahah love the pop tart story! Can’t say I’ve ever seen that.
I always feel like im the only one who whips out snacks during lecture, but hey a girl’s gotta eat.
& about the binging/reactive eating, I like to think its our bodies way of telling us it needs nourishment! I have a hard time telling if im going overboard or if I actually need more fuel.
Serious question: no joke just went on poptarts website, so many flavours I had’nt known of! Gingerbread sounds amazing.
laura recently posted..Making me happy
Mhmm I agree Laura, and it can be scary at times, but the way we have denied it for so long, it’s time to really listen to what it needs! And hahaaha I just went and looked up the flavors too! Gingerbread does sound pretty fantastic and the sugar cookie too
Breakfast for dinner, impromptu rest days, snacking in class, and using the mall as an indoor track are definitely okay in my books! As is eating Poptarts at the gym, I suppose… but only if it’s the s’mores flavor
At the end of the day, it all comes down to doing what works best for you. I eat a lot more than most people and I exercise a lot less… does it make me feel bad? Yeah, sometimes I’ll get that twinge of “Ohhh maybe I’m doing something wrong…” but then I remember that doing what others do never led me anywhere good, and that marching to the beat of of my own drum has made a world of difference. Stay strong, love
Amanda @ .running with spoons. recently posted... sunday morning cereal .
Always helpful to hear from you Amanda because you do have the rational and “real” voice I so often need to hear! Yes I am doing what works for me, getting comfortable doing so, and that is the most important thing right now
Cereal for dinner is the BEST. As is eating in class. I ALWAYS did that whether others cared or not. I would never be able to focus on an empty stomach.
Nikki recently posted..Assateague in January
Exactly! Plus the noises my stomach starts to make are awfully distracting haha
I was always the class snacker!! And I don’t know how others made it through either.
Brown Sugar pop tarts – oh yes!! I have not eaten a pop tart in ages, but consider it almost every time I walk down the cereal aisle. Unfortunately, I have the nutrition info on those things memorized and can never let myself go that far
I should just do it sometime!!!
Weirdest thing at our gym? This group of dudes that ALWAYS work out in jeans. It drives me nuts!!
Sharla recently posted..A Little Breather
You and me BOTH should do it sometime Sharla! it’s been years for me too (and heck yes, I know the nutrition info too, ughh please erase from my mind!). A challenge for the future ehh?!
I’ve never had a Poptart … I wonder if I’m missing out?!
I definitely think there’s a difference between bingeing and eating more than you normally do, especially if your body needs it. Heck, I think it’s still ok even if your body doesn’t need it sometimes. I’m sure I didn’t need a second or third bar of chocolate on Saturday, but it tasted good and it’s not going to hurt me as long as it’s not an everyday occurance.
Great photo of you with highlight foils – keeping it real
Ahh Sarah you are missing out! It’s one of those most awesome processed sugary American foods that are supposed to be a kid’s “breakfast” choice… Really they are just tasty pieces of cardboard haha
Right now I’m thinking “Hey it’s okay to… take two rest days a week if your body needs it.” I always take Saturday off, but this week I took Sunday off too. I was just feeing drained and lethargic so I knew if I tried to work out it wouldn’t even be to the best of my ability and I would end up feeling frustrated the whole time anyway. Some of the strangest things I see at the gym are just when women show up completely done-up with makeup and jewelry and their hair done. Who are you trying to impress and why are you even at the gym if you’re not aiming to get in a workout that would mess all of that up anyway? Really have never understood that one. I haven’t had a pop tart in years either but I used to love the s’mores ones. My mouth is watering just thinking about them!

I’ve been on a PB kick lately and I have to finish my breakfast with a spoonful of PB (even if I already had some with greek yogurt) for my breakfast to have it feel “complete”.
Haven’t had oatmeal in a while, but that bowl you had looks so drool-worthy!

THOSE CRYSTALLIZED TIGHTS!!!!!!!!! WANT!!! I’m like a magpie, I like sparkly things a bit too much haha. Actually right now I’m wearing a sparkly sweater AND sparkly Toms….too much? hey, it’s okay. Props to you for posting a picture while getting lowlights lol, after I dyed my hair brown I immediately was like “WTF DID I JUST DO???” and started highlighting it back to blonde again….never did I have the courage to post a selfie of my foiled hair hahaha. And I’m proud of you for 1. taking a rest day when you felt off (weak and shaky is NOT okay to exercise through, so say the CTS coaches, BTW), AND for listening to your body and giving it what it wants even after dinner! for what it’s worth, I always have a somewhat bigger “bedtime snack” after dinner, I don’t know why but I guess that’s just the schedule I’m on. But hey, it’s more than okay, it’s good! some days your body will want way more food than your plan, some days it will want less, some days it will want the exact amount – it all balances out in the end
It is definitely okay to eat in class even if no one else is, I’m with you – how can people go so long without eating?! It’s also definitely okay to eat breakfast for dinner, I used to do that all the time
And I love sparkly clothing
For me binging is eating waaay past fullness so that my stomach feels like it’s completely stretched and NOT in a comfortable way at all. If you’re extra hungry, just eat extra food! That’s definitely not a binge.
I hope you find your necklace!
