Read
I truly love to read. Getting lost in a book, when you suddenly realize several hours have gone by while reading, is one of the things in life I treasure! Recently, I have also been listening to books on my iPod when I am walking to the class, in the car and even on a run! It makes the time go by supaaa fast.
I also received a Kindle for my birthday, in November, and it is by far one of the best gifts I have ever received!
Here is a list of my favorite books, in no particular order (I will update this regularly
)
- Firefly Lane- Kristin Hannah
- The Secret Life of CeeCee Wilkes- Diane Chamberlain
- The Harry Potter Series- J.K. Rowling
- Water for Elephants- Sara Gruen
- The Help- Kathryn Stockett
- Prince of Tides- Patrick Conroy
- The Stand- Steven King
- Nicholas Sparks books- I will admit it, I am a sucker for these romance novels! Safe Haven, The Lucky One, The Choice, The Rescue, True Believer, At First Sight
- Very Valentine, Brava Valentine- Adriana Trigiani
- The Art of Racing in the Rain- Garth Stein
- The Grapes of Wrath- John Steinbeck
- Anne of Green Gables- L.M. Montgomery
- The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, The Mockingjay (three part series)- Suzanne Collins
- The Glass Castle- Jeannette Walls
- Sarah’s Key- Tatiana de Rosnay
- The Thornbirds- Colleen McCullough

I also love to read. The Hunger Games trilogy was amazing. Its nice to see that you read Anne of Green Gables!
I just finished the last book of the triology, I wanted to finish it but it’s also bittersweet because it was sooo good! Now I need to find a new book, any suggestions?
Yes, Anne of Green Gables is a classic! The movies are also good
I really like Kurt Vonnegut. Slaughterhouse Five and Cat’s Cradle are classics. He also has a couple books of short stories which are really fun to read in 15-30 min. They are Welcome to the Monkey House and Look at the Birdie.
And yes, we will have to chat about The Stand soon.
Thanks for the ideas! I am looking for something captivating like The Stand. I told Christine about this series, but I can’t remember if you were part of the conversation. Anyway, you should try reading The Hunger Games trilogy. I don’t think you will be disappointed!
I really like any of the books by sophie kinsella. I just started the hunger games and i already love it! can’t wait to read the series.
Ooo good to know, that author has been noted! Thank you Katie!
Hi Tessa! I just found your blog and I thought I would give you some recommendations. I think that everyone MUST read these books at some point in their lives: Born to Run, I am the Messenger, The Five People You Meet in Heaven, The Book Thief, and The Alchemist. Let me know if you pick any of these up…They’re life changers!
Hey Kelli! Thank you so much for stopping by! I read Born To Run and loved it but haven’t read the other ones yet! Thanks so much for the recommendations.. I think I am going to try the alchemist next, I heard that was amazing
ahh i read firefly lane when i was in residential and loved it. she’s really a great writer. reminds me of jodi picoult, who i also love (in small doses). have you read house rules? that’s a pretty good one of hers. jeannette walls wrote another book called half-broke horses which isn’t quite as good as the glass castle but is excellent. books are the BEST distraction, i could read them or talk about them for days! we have really similar tastes in books so if you come across any good ones let me know! do you have a goodreads account?

I will of course let you know if I find any good ones! I am actually reading One Day right now and really enjoying it… have you read that one?
And no, I have never heard of goodreads!
The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins is just wow! I was barely able to put this book down for a second after the first few pages got me completely hooked. Suzanne Collins narrative here has an immediacy to it that, when combined with the very dramatic life-or-death plot, is incredibly compelling. It’s entertaining, and incredibly disturbing all at once. Suzanne Collins has, with one amazing work, propelled herself onto my top shelf.

Anything by John Green or Sarah Dessen – if you like YA. Sarah Ockler is also good, as is Deb Caletti. I’m also big on Jodi Picoult though once in a while I’ll find one that I can’t get through at all.
